Twitch is the easiest chat connection in this six-platform ranking. YouTube may need an API key and a stream URL. Most SWS widgets connect Kick by channel name. Facebook asks for more setup, TikTok chat is unofficial, and Instagram Live does not take an outside stream.
Last checked: 2026-09-24. Platform rules change, so re-check before you plan.
Multistreaming means sending one broadcast to several platforms. A multistream widget is a chat overlay: it puts messages from several platforms into one on-screen feed. Those are separate jobs, explained in what multistreaming actually is.
The ranking at a glance
| Rank | Platform | What you need for chat |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Twitch | Your channel name, or authorization where the tool asks for it |
| 2 | YouTube | The current live stream's watch URL and a free YouTube Data API key, or a StreamElements connection |
| 3 | Kick | Your channel name; a chatroom ID only when your widget asks for it |
| 4 | A Page, Graph API live video and usually app review | |
| 5 | TikTok | An unofficial, best-effort connection |
| 6 | No way in: Instagram Live does not take an outside stream. |

This is a ranking of connection difficulty and policy. To compare widgets instead, read the Multistream Chat Widget guide.
1. Twitch: the easiest connection
What the policy says
Since October 2023, Twitch Partners and Affiliates have been able to simulcast without the earlier exclusivity restriction. Restream's compliance guide documents the change and retained it in its 2026 refresh.
There are two conditions: your Twitch stream must have equal or better quality than your other streams. You also cannot use chat, panels or your About section to send viewers to your stream on another platform.
The written guideline restricts combined chat displays. Streams Charts' 2026 explainer reports that Twitch's CEO announced an enforcement pause in February after creator backlash.
Treat that as reported paused enforcement, rather than written permission. You should re-check it before showing merged chat on Twitch.
How you connect
Enter your Twitch channel name in the widget. You do not need an API key, a chatroom ID or an approval wait for the connection described here.
2. YouTube: check your widget's connection method
What the policy says
YouTube has no stated exclusivity restriction on simulcasting. That is not an explicit permission statement.
How you connect
Some widgets connect YouTube through StreamElements instead; your setup guide says which.
For a widget that uses an API key, you need two values:
- The current live stream's watch URL. Use the watch page while you are broadcasting. Your channel URL is not the same value, and you need to update the stream URL when you go live again.
- A YouTube Data API key. This is a free credential from Google Cloud that lets the widget request chat data.
- Create a project in Google Cloud Console.
- Enable YouTube Data API v3 for that project.
- Generate an API key under Credentials.
- Paste the key into your widget's YouTube API key field.
- Paste the current live stream's watch URL into its YouTube URL field.
What you should see: messages from your active YouTube chat appear in the overlay.
If YouTube stays silent: check the current stream URL, check the API key, and confirm the API is enabled. One platform can fail while the others still show messages.
3. Kick: follow your widget's requirements
What the policy says
Kick has no stated rule against simulcasting itself. Creator payout guides, including this Kick payout breakdown, report a financial condition instead.
They report that the revenue split is cut roughly in half for hours streamed simultaneously elsewhere. They also report that Kick Partners must enable the dashboard's Multistreaming toggle.
Kick has not published confirmation of that payout figure. Treat it as reported, rather than confirmed. Re-verify the terms before you make a payout decision.
How you connect
Most SWS chat widgets connect Kick with just your channel name. If your widget asks for a chatroom ID, here is how to find it. This numeric ID identifies your channel's chat feed; your username is not that number.
Kick's lookup page can show a Cloudflare bot check. Use a normal browser tab where you are already logged in to Kick.
- Open
https://kick.com/api/v2/channels/your-channel-name, replacingyour-channel-namewith your Kick channel name. - Find the chatroom object in the returned JSON.
- Copy the numeric id inside that object.
- Paste the number into your widget's Kick chatroom ID field.

What you should see: your Kick messages appear in the merged feed after the connection required by your widget.
If Kick stays silent: check that you copied the chatroom object's ID, check your channel name, and re-check the included setup guide if the page has changed.
A missing chatroom ID lookup step cost one customer a full day of setup.
For the full walkthrough, read how to set up Kick chat in an OBS widget.
4. Facebook: sanctioned, with more paperwork
What the policy says
Facebook's earlier simulcasting restriction has been lifted. Reports place the change in either 2025 or 2026; the exact year is unconfirmed.
Facebook comments can be read through its sanctioned Graph API.
What you need
- A Facebook Page, rather than a personal profile.
- A live video object created through the Graph API, rather than the regular Facebook Live button.
- In most cases, a Meta app that has passed app review before it reads comments at scale.
If you have built on Meta's platform, the process may be familiar. If you have not, the app and review work is why Facebook sits behind Kick in this ranking.
5. TikTok: unofficial, best effort
What the policy says
TikTok has no public Live chat API and no stated simulcasting position. Treat chat access as unofficial, best effort.
How the connection works
Unofficial tools read TikTok's internal WebSocket feed, the connection a viewer's browser uses to receive live messages. Their open source maintainers describe that access as unofficial.
It can work, and it can break without warning. You do not have a sanctioned chat integration to fall back on. SWS widgets use the free TikFinity app for TikTok chat.
Check how a tool connects before you choose it.
6. Instagram: no way in
Instagram Live does not take an outside stream, so there is nothing for a chat widget to connect to.
Re-check Instagram's live tools before you plan a broadcast.
Official access and unofficial workarounds
Twitch, YouTube, Kick and Facebook offer chat connections with different setup requirements. TikTok chat access is unofficial, and Instagram Live does not take an outside stream. Sending your video and bringing chat into an overlay are separate jobs.

A merged feed only shows the messages it can read. You still need each platform's own moderator powers to moderate that platform's messages.
Choose the widget for the chats you use
The Multistream Chat Widget Pack gives you ten skins for Twitch, YouTube and Kick chat, plus unofficial TikTok chat through TikFinity. The original six skins share an engine; the four froggy designs are separate installs. It does not send your broadcast to those platforms.
For one widget, the Multistream Chat Widget merges those chat sources in one box. Connect your YouTube channel in StreamElements and enter your Kick channel name. Follow its PDF guide for the exact setup. TikTok needs TikFinity, and GIFs stay Twitch-only.
You add the resulting overlay as a browser source: the OBS or Streamlabs layer that loads a web page into your scene. Neither widget supports Facebook or Instagram chat.

FAQ
Does a multistream chat widget send my stream to several platforms?
No. It reads chat into an overlay. You need a separate broadcast setup to send your video to multiple destinations.
Can I use my YouTube channel URL?
If your widget uses an API key, use your live stream's watch URL, not your channel URL. Some widgets connect YouTube through StreamElements instead; your setup guide says which.
Is my Kick username the chatroom ID?
No. The chatroom ID is the numeric value inside the chatroom object. Most SWS chat widgets connect Kick with just your channel name. Only look up the ID if your widget asks for it.
Is TikTok chat an official integration?
No. The connection described here is unofficial, best effort, and can break when TikTok changes its systems.
